Our story began in 1854, when a small group of German Lutheran families, led by Rev. Peter Jacob Buehl, gathered in Akron with a shared desire to worship, pray, and build a Christ-centered community. What started in a simple meeting hall grew into a permanent church home in 1877. Through generations, our building has been expanded and renewed, reflecting both the growth of our congregation and our continued commitment to serving the Akron community.
While our facilities have changed over the years, our foundation has remained the same – faith in Jesus Christ, the teaching of God’s Word, and a heart for welcome those who seek hope, grace, and belonging.
Today, Zion continues to be a place where tradition meets everyday life. We gather for worship, prayer, fellowship, and service – supporting one another through life’s joys and challenges. Whether you are new to the Lutheran faith, returning to church, or simply searching for a place to belong, there is a place for you here.
We invite you to join us for worship and experience the warmth of a church family that has been serving Akron for generations – and looks forward to serving for many more.
