One Bold Thing to Remember About Earthly Leaders
Every earthly ruler has limitations. Why, then, do we live in fear of them and seek their approval so desperately, with the yelling, cheering, screaming, and begging for the scraps that come from their table?
Luke 12 says: 4 “I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. 5 But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him! 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? And not one of them is forgotten before God. 7 Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.
A lot of people have this insecurity about their leaders, where they seek their approval, as if they’re not worthy enough to exist in their kingdoms.
Jesus’ words here give us a great maxim for earthly kingdoms: earthly leaders forget.
When an earthly leader enacts justice, or makes a decree, they tend to move on to what is next on the list. They have little vested interest beyond keeping order, expanding their rule, and establishing a legacy. Yes, earthly leaders do care about those under their authority, but when you’re forgotten, you’re forgotten. There will always be somebody to replace you, and earthly leaders have to take that into account.
So what should you do? Simple: don’t lose sleep. Don’t lose sleep over what a leader does or doesn’t do for you. Don’t get in a funk about the little things, because they will soon be forgotten. But, if you allow all of those things to breed a habit of distress, it will do nothing but cause an early death. This world remembers not the little worries and frights. Instead, focus on the One who remembers and does not forget you. In earthly kingdoms you may have value for a time, but it will pass. Focus on the Kingdom of our Lord Jesus whose time has no boundaries and His remembrance will not fade. He helps quiet the panic of the day to day, and calms the despair of never finding fulfillment in following an earthly leader.
Earthly leaders move on, but God remembers how loyal and faithful you have been. That is worth more than any earthly position. Sleep well knowing that with all of the countless people who confess Jesus Christ, that you do not get lost in the crowd. Amen.
All any leader can do is his/her best…with the help of the Lord through His Holy Spirit! BUT many earthly leaders do NOT believe in an Almighty Lord…so,you are correct, too much consternation IS unhealthy!
“…but when you come to personal dealings with others, remember who you are – you are not some special being created in heaven, but a sinner saved by grace,” Oswald Chambers
