Scripture For Encouragement

God wants us to encourage one another. God wants us to be encouraged. God wants the church to be the model for building others up and not destroying the spirit of those around us.

We talked about St. Paul and St. Barnabas on Sunday and the unfortunate disagreement they had over whether John Mark should go with them in their ministry. It is unfortunate they were not able to resolve that disagreement (at that time) and it hindered them from continuing to be a missionary team that had accomplished great things.

We talked about St. Barnabas as being an encourager, so today I’d just like to share a list of Scripture passages that might help to encourage you and give strength when you seek to encourage others.

For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, who died for us so that whether we are awake or asleep we might live with him. Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing. – 1 Thessalonians 5:9-11

But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. – Hebrews 3:13

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. – Romans 15:13

Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it. – Proverbs 22:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. – Joshua 1:9

Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. – Proverbs 30:5

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world. – John 16:33

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer. – Psalm 19:14

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. – Acts 4:12

May the words of Scripture help you through whatever is testing, tempting, or causing you to struggle. God is the Great Encourager, and may He be your encourager, and may He raise up one with an encouraging word at just the right time for you. Amen.
