The Pursuit of God is Never in Vain

Isaiah 45:19 — I did not speak in secret, in a land of darkness; I did not say to the offspring of Jacob, ‘Seek me in vain.’ I the Lord speak the truth; I declare what is right.

The world thinks that the Lord keeps to Himself. The world thinks that the Lord doesn’t reveal Himself. The world thinks that the Lord needs to give us the sign.

It’s amazing what we want to be true. It’s amazing how people just believe that the one sign they look for would change the world.

Well, the world saw that sign and it still didn’t believe that it was truth. The world saw the cross and saw what it believed was vanity at its height. The world thought that those who gathered at the feet of Jesus were gathering at the feet of a blasphemer.

It’s amazing the passion that the disciples had at the sight of the resurrected Christ who appeared numerous times as a witness to what death could not do. And the world doesn’t want us to seek that God, because a God that would dare say something is an abomination or living a life of ______ is unhealthy and filled with misery? Walking away from a God who can, not cheat death, but bear the full weight of it and LIVE to tell about it, that’s vanity.

The Lord speaks truth in so many ways. Do we want to hear it? Are we even listening?

The Lord defines what is right. It hurts to think about how we rebel against the dictionary of God. We want to turn God’s ways into slang, so we can say that ________ really means this instead. And as slang changes, evolves and devolves, we suddenly find ourselves two and three steps removed from what God really said.

In this new season, challenge yourself to pursue the truth of the cross, the truth above all truths. Challenge yourself to study God’s Word so that your definitions are in line with the dictionary of Scripture. And know that the active pursuit of God’s righteousness is never in vain. Amen.
